Gris: A Journey Within

Quick Review:

On first impression, Gris is a very gorgeous-looking game, both aurally and visually. Gameplay-wise, it’s similar to a platform game but there are no enemies for you to destroy and you as the player are compelled to explore the mysterious yet artistically beautiful world.

In the words of Spanish indie developer Nomada Studio,

Gris is a hopeful young girl lost in her own world, dealing with a painful experience in her life. Her journey through sorrow is manifested in her dress, which grants new abilities to better navigate her faded reality. As the story unfolds, Gris will grow emotionally and see her world in a different way, revealing new paths to explore using her new abilities.

And that is what you do as the player in the game. You navigate Gris through various environments and solve puzzles along the way, all in the hopes of Gris eventually finding herself. If you are looking for a game that’s a cross between a platformer and adventure game, Gris is a game worth giving a shot.

Each new stage is represented by a colour and you’ll start off the game in a grey world. More colours/worlds and abilities are unlocked as you progress and each environment becomes more artistically beautiful.

At the end of the day, Gris is a wonderfully-produced indie video game that deserves the various accolades since its release.
