Quick review:
Honestly, I had no interest when the game was released since it’s categorised as a horror game. I saw one of my followed Twitch streamers giving this game a shot and I decided it may be good to check it out since I own a Series S, subscribed to Game Pass, and it was an Xbox exclusive at that time.
The Medium is a slow burner at the start and for a good portion, and it only starts to pick up pace around 3/5 of the game. And there are heavy themes being explored in the game, so if you’re looking for something more fast-paced/action-y/horror, you may want to give this a miss.
Gameplay-wise, it’s interesting because there are several moments throughout the game where you get to have your protagonist explore both the real and supernatural (spiritual) realms at the same time. And you can switch to focus on either realm to complete certain tasks or actions.
The Medium is developed by Bloober Team, the same studio that made Blair Witch the game. So if you’ve played Blair Witch, it should give you an inkling of this offering.
My Series S was struggling when the game’s graphics got really intensive and it’s evident in the gameplay videos. If you own a Series X or a PC equipped with capable graphics card, the improved graphics will make the game slightly more enjoyable.
But still, by the end of the game, I find myself sold into the story and am hoping that Bloober Team makes a sequel.
